Day Two of my two-day social mediafest in Sydney is now over; through a hazy mix of excitement and exhaustion I start compiling my reflections from the airport en route back to my beloved Adelaide and my family.
Day Two was not bewitched by as many tech hassles as Day One, thank goodness! Only one movie stubbornly refused to play (grrr…) but the internet connection was working, the laptop didn’t need rebooting and the sound wasn’t buzzy.
I left the recalcitrant printer on top of my rubbish bin in my hotel room and the very kind and gorgeous Jess from Melcrum went out and bought another one. I’m leaving it in the Melcrum office so that I don’t have to cart it back and forth and they can also print the label onto the dvds and send them out to the attendees who didn’t get one today.
Today’s attendees were just as attractive, handsome, suave, sophisticated, intelligent, wise, witty and downright fabulous as they were yesterday
And, just like yesterday, there was plenty of good knowledge sharing and interaction amongst each other as well as with me.
Also, just like yesterday, there was one of those moments that I just love: when someone’s eyes spark and their face shows that they suddenly ‘get it’. It is just a magic moment — their eyes sparkle, their face assumes a state of delighted shock, they stare out into another world as the glassy shard of insight slips between their eyes.
One of the ‘must organise this’ requests from the crew there was a sort of ‘email swapfest’, so that everyone can stay in touch — there were some interesting possible networking opportunities that time did not allow.
So, if you were at either day (SocMed101 or SocMed Strategy) please email me and I’ll compile a list (assuming, of course, that you are happy to be a part of this round-table discussion). I’ll keep the list just between us, of course!
UPDATE: Well, it’s now several days since the workshop ended; I’ve finally been waylaid by the head cold that threatened to derail me and so have had no energy or brain to complete this post.
Thank you to every single* attendee at the workshops — without your input, questions, answers, advice, insights and inquisitiveness my days would have been considerably harder and much less fun and fulfilling. Again, thank you.
And thank you, yet again, to the superb team from Melcrum in Sydney without who’s organisation and efforts none of this would have happened. In particular ‘mentions in dispatches’ must go to Katrina Andrews, Justine ‘I’ve just turned 30 and I’m not afraid to celebrate it in Las Vegas’ Atkinson, and the very wonderful Jess who’s surname I didn’t catch but who brought me coffee, water, organisation, a new printer, a fabulous smile and a shed-load of style and elegance to counteract my disheveled, disorganised self.
