Michelle Berardone, the very wise, witty and plain-talking (which means clear understanding, which I love and wish more senior managers engaged in) Manager of Corporate Communications at Powerlink in Queensland, has given me the heads-up on a superb comms role up in sunny Brisbane.
As Michelle says:
This is a key senior role in the Communications team and the successful candidate will be providing strategic advice and communication services to support the various challenging community aspects of a $2.6 billion linear infrastructure capital program. Powerlink Queensland is a $3.9 billion Government Owned Corporation that will be constructing more than 1000km of high voltage transmission line in Queensland over a five year period - so there will be no shortage of communication challenges to support this work.
We are ‘pulling out all stops’ to find the ‘right person’ who has several years of experience in, and will be involved in, developing strategic communications plans, issues management, media, community goodwill, providing government and stakeholder relations advice, etc.
There will be the opportunity for the ‘right’ person to take on management responsibility of the Capital Works Team on the occasions that the Capital Works Communications Manager is on leave or in the event she is providing support elsewhere in Powerlink’s business. We also have a CE that recognises and supports the importance of strategic communications - which as any practitioner would know is a key prerequisite to being able to really excel in the job.
Lee, as you know, the team and company culture are sensational (must say our team are very proud of the positive work environment we have created, which you would have glimpsed when you joined us recently in Bris), and as an employer Powerlink provides much more than $, which I will add are competitive with the public sector. Powerlink offers its staff genuine professional development opportunities, a flexible working arrangement, gym and gym classes on site, subsidised canteen, free parking, etc…
If you know anyone who may be interested in and fits the bill for this role we would love to hear from them. For more info about Powerlink or the position they should contact Melissa Azzopardi at or they can go to the Powerlink website www.powerlink.com.au (Although please don’t hold our website against us - yes as you have pointed out previously it is overdue for an upgrade and we are working on that!! In fact the ‘right person’ might even want to take on the responsibility for bringing the capital works side of our site into the Web 2.0 world!!).
Anyone interested in the job should go to the recruitment section of the Powerlink website - we have extended the closing date for applications to COB next Friday (23 May).
Lee, any assistance you may be able to provide in getting this role out there so that the person we are looking for can find out about it would be greatly appreciated.
I know from discussions with Michelle that they are really focused on finding someone with the right experience. The position calls for, amongst other things, a number of years “experience and demonstrated ability in communication and consultation strategy development and implementation relating specifically to major infrastructure projects” and experience in government stakeholder management/liaison.
They are a fabulous company to work for, by all accounts, and I can attest that Brisbane is a gorgeous city to work in.
If you think you have what it takes (baby!) or know someone who might, drop Melissa Azzopardi a line.
