End of vid reminds me of a very bad touchdown in DC in the late 80s. After we got steady and were taxiing, everybody in the cabin ashen and stunned, some smartaleck says “not a bad landing.” People stare at him. He adds, “the third one, I mean.” Deathly silence broken by ripple of mirth, although by no means unanimous.
For the flight you show, that would have been “fifth”.
Hope you and Mrs. Bettercomms get to do something special for the day.
I’m not sure what’s special about the tool you used, but this is an attractive, easy-to-look-at, entertaining video. Nice job!

Actually, Meg, I’ve been meaning to comment about your listings. I have a lot more subscribers than some of your other top 100 blogs, but continue to fall outside the top 100 aussie blogs. Huh? Surely you need to weight subscriber numbers higher than you currently are? They are, after all, a reflection of ’stickiness’…

Looks great Lee. Curious to hear how the workflow is to put this together. Meaning how easy did it make it for you.
One thing weird is that the video is showing up UNDER the comments for me here in FireFox on my PC. When the page first loads the YouTube embed is where it is suppose to be but then goes away and is actually under the comments.
I’ve never seen that before!

CC. The very same ‘load’ thing happens with me in FFox AND Flock — it seems to load okay, then disappears down to the bottom. Grrrrrr

Actually, once you get the hang of it, VlogIt! isn’t bad. But like Windows Movie Maker it is very basic software. The ‘grown up’ version of VlogIt! is Visual Communicator (http://www.adobe.com/products/visualcommunicator/) but at the moment I can’t afford the asking price.
VlogIt! is ‘old tech’ - it doesn’t appear to have been updated since 2005 when Adobe bought the developer (the same developer as Visual Communicator). I’m not sure if Visual Communicator has been updated since it was purchased.
Like Windows MovieMaker, it IS basic, but at the same time not too complex to learn. If I want more bells and whistles (like multiple audio tracks, etc, audio levelling, etc) I’ll have to consider shelling out the hard stuff for the big brother Communicator.
But for AUD$39 (AUD$12 student rate) I’m not complaining!

Not a bad first effort and I like the way you spliced in good support prop video for the topic. Personally, I have FAR less opportunity to use video than I do for audio and text. Should you decide to use video more in the future, that would severely limit my ability to enjoy your content.
That said, I am sure there are many people in the world who can interrupt what they are doing to view a short video format with good content. Well done.

Lee I agree that subscribers are a very important measure of a blog’s success, if not the most important and I have expressed my frustration at this.
The one problem that I have is that not everybody uses FeedBurner, which means that the list would be restricted to those that do (and those who make that number visible). That would exclude a lot of people.
I have considered putting an addition onto the list for “other highly subscribed blogs” (or words to that effect), what do you think?

Peter - thanks for your very kind comments. The issue of ‘accessibility’ is one that I have discussed at length with my Professorial colleague, Professor Sallie Goetsch from podcastasylum.com.
There is definitely a trade off. Last year I experimented with delivering both a video AND an audio track via libsyn/rss, as a way of meeting both agendas. It’s easily done with some software, but not VlogIt! Perhaps if I convert the movie to an avi (sound only) via Xilisoft Video Converter it might work…

Meg: I guess my biggest ‘beef’ is with the ‘Top 100′ tag. There is no doubt that some of them aren’t in reality in the top 100; perhaps another table, positioned higher on the page than the top 100 (after all, who scrolls down even further to read another table after scrolling down a long list already?) of those blogs who have declared their subscriber numbers?
This isn’t such a burden as it might appear, as Feedburner has introduced some really cool apps that will take all and every subscriber to your blog, no matter which feed they take it from, and deliver the numbers. It means that the numbers fluctuate more than usual, but it means that no subscriber is left out.
I’m going to blog further about this and open it up to our Aussie community to toss the ideas around further, if that’s okay.
