The students just loved it!

As the guest of Dr. Collette Snowden, I recently gave a presentation on my two favourite topics — employee comms and social media — to her PR students at UniSA.

Here’s a pdf version of the ‘Death By PowerPoint’ show I gave.

I had a great time and I understand that the students also enjoyed the presentation, especially the bit where I didn’t talk but instead sat down and let the EPIC movie knock them for six.

Thanks for inviting me, Collette!

Oh, and for the students — I and many others regularly contribute to the Marcom PR Blog, the Forward PR Podcast and I also contribute to theMediaPod.net run for PR students at Deakin Uni. As an entry into the Social Media world I cannot recommend them highly enough!

Shel Holtz's brilliant book on employee commsColleague and friend Shel Holtz has written the definitive book on employee communications, called ‘Corporate Conversations’. If you are only just toying with the idea entering the field of employee comms, you should buy this book. Even if you don’t enter the field, it will help you realise how poorly your employers will probably communicate to you and your colleagues!

Hi! I’m a student at Auburn University and wanted to tell you that if you ever want to speak to college kids about one of your favorite things, social media, you should come speak to our Style and Design class. It’s ALL about social media and we’ve totally gotten in to it. So if you’re ever passing through Auburn, AL, stop in and we’ll be the audience of your dreams!

See Lee, I’m not the only one that wants you to join Paull on his world tour. You guys should get on a plane and come on over here.

Absent that, perhaps we can do a Skype call and have you speak with the students in a conference. I’m guessing the time difference could actually work here. If it is 5:00 p.m. (US, Central Time) here, isn’t it about 9:00 a.m. for you? That’s when our class meets.

If your game for it, please let us know. Thanks.

Hey young man! How about 9am my time Friday? I’d be honoured and flattered! I have been loving the comments your students have been leaving both on this blog and on my posts on the marcom blog — fantastic stuff!!

    Hey Lee,

Thanks. If we are talking my Thursday afternoon class, and your Friday morning, that’s great. We can do it.

However, I miscalculated the time. My apologies. Just used the world clock for Adelaide and realized that 5:00 p.m our time (Thursday) is 7:30 a.m. your time (Friday). Will this still be possible for you? We could start at 8:00 a.m. your time and 5:30 p.m. our time. (Man, this could get confusing.)

    Thank you.

    - Robert

    Hey Robert,

Well, 7.30am actually works better for me — the earlier the better, actually, as I have to take the kiddy-winks to school. I usually get up around 4-5am.

  6. Robert French Says:

Great. Thanks, Lee. I’ll Skype you at 7:30 a.m. your time on Friday morning. The students will be very pleased. Looking forward to it.

    Take care.
