I ‘ve been told that I can only tell you that I am beta testing the new Skylook.
I can’t tell you anything about it.
I can’t tell you its amazing new functionality.
Nor can I tell you how fantastic a tool it is for podcasters who use Skype to conduct their podcasts.
Nor can I tell you about the fantastic new monitoring features that come with it.
All I CAN tell you is…
W….O….W!!!
If ever there was a software upgrade you ‘must’ get if you even dream you might want to use Skype at some stage in the future to talk to other people who are on their mobile phones, or their cell phones, or in another country…
THIS IS IT!
[Sneak hint: in an upcoming interview with Peter Vogt, Internal Comms Manager Worldwide for eBay Group, he categorically states that Skype will be the largest revenue generator of the group within 5 years; you had better believe that skype will become THE inter-, intra- and pan-global tool for person-to-person communication]
In London they’d say it was “the dogs”.
It is.
1. And no, I don’t get paid to ‘pump’ for them. It is just a bloody fanastic tool.
2,. And if you haven’t checked out their freebie ‘Waxmail‘ yet, you are either:
-
a newcomer to the ’social media scene
-
a late adopter of technology that really DOES add value (and the “Doh!” moment when you realise how blimmin’ essential it is)

Sounds Wonderful!
What if you don’t use Outlook, Outlook Express, or any other email app on your computer? (and therefore have had only one virus on your pcs in 8 years online-Thanks Yahoo!, GMail, etc.!)
I’m surely in a teenie-tiny minority, but it’s a fact. And I can access all my email anywhere from any ‘net-connected computer. And I let those companies filter sp*m into a separate folder, which I check on a regular basis (& 99% of the contents are sp*m-very rarely do they catch ‘real’ email).
Anyways, it sure sounds cool…maybe I should make another attempt to get my mic working on my now-6 month old pc that has so far refused to allow my voice to become ones & zeros…I miss using Skype.
Love & Peace, Clarence
Sorry Lee, doesn’t do it for me as I don’t and won’t use Outlook. I’m not anti-Outlook for the usual virus reasons but because it’s not very good.
It was never really designed with business users in mind. Look at the lame way it stores contacts as individuals instead of having them attached to companies. Makes it very difficult to do address changes and 101 things.
We use a product called OfficeTalk. I do have to declare an interest as its developer is a client. However, I started using it years ago and Softalk only became a client just over 12 months ago.
I´m sure Lee is thinking about the wonders Skylook can make for podcasters, am I right - not so much the mail-system. I used an earlier version of Skylook to record Skypecalls - and chats, and the way it integrates with outlook is really neat.
But Lee, tell me, or whisper in my virtual ear, can we now record our skypecalls and use them ind podcasts, or do I still have to use my mixer-set-up?
I am not too keen on HotRecorder - is Skylook better?
Hush hush!
Clarence, I envy you your lack of viruses and totally understand how you managed to avoid them. There is a LOT to be said for sticking to webmail and nothing else. But the PIM functions of Outlook, especially when it syncs to my Nokia phone for calendar, notes and directory make it irresistible for a wannabe geek like me! {grin}. I’ve been an Office devotee since the days of Word 6.0 when Outlook in a very basic form replaced my PIM of that time (and I can’t even remember its name, but it had a fantastic gui of a filofax with all its tabs).
Stuart: I had a quick look at the FAQs and other pages on OfficeTalk but I confess nothing grabbed me by the short and curlies, and I worry that I would lose functionality with both my Nokia and my upcoming Dell PDA purchase.
What REALLY fires me up about Skylook is how amazingly bloody good it is as recording phone calls, which is where Karin’s question/comments come in. Whilst the existing Skylook DOES record both sides of the conversation already, the new version (beta) gives you SOOOOO much more information and options. It really is exciting and for the money SOOO worth it. Karin — ditch HotRecorder (I’ve never tried it, but it’s rubbish, according to other commentators) and go for Skylook with your Outlook. You won’t regret it, trust me!
Lee, OfficeTalk’s biggest benefit probably isn’t for you. Where it totally beats Outlook is if you work in a team as it is pretty unbeatable in terms of sharing information - contacts, emails, phone calls, letters, tasks etc. One of the problems of promoting it is that there isn’t really anything to compare it with. Outlook, Act and Goldmine are the obvious choices, but they don’t do nearly as much for collaboration and teamwork. The Pocket PC sync is coming very shortly (it already has Palm).
HotRecorder is OK. I use it to record interviews when I’m writing case studies etc.
Hi Lee
I do want to test Skylook - but I need your response on another peace of software . Pamela - that actually makes a wav-file of skype-recordings - shoot me an email, if you want to know more.
G’day Karin,
Never heard of Pamela — can you shoot me some info, please? Lee at leehopkins dot net
Cheers!
