ell, no one can say I haven’t been giving it a fair go…
I eventually found Shelville’s FIR booth on Podcaster’s Island on Second Life.
This is what their booth looks like — that’s me on the left. On a wooden crate. Probably getting a splinter in my derriere.

Here’s me sitting on the other side of their booth.
Stark, isn’t it?

By way of contrast, here’s the CommsCafe booth, just two doors to the left…

Fancy dropping by for a chat? (126, 62, 25)
Coming soon: a coffee machine and comfy couch on which to relax and read something from our extensive bookshelf, plus no doubt when he gets back from holiday CC Chapman himself will pop by for an interview…
UPDATE: I have created a SLurl — just type in LeeHopkins.name into your favourite browser and be magically transported to the gateway to a whole new world.

1. If this is your first time commenting using the email address you have given, your comment will be held in 'moderation' and won't appear until one of us here at BetterComms Towers approves it. This stops spammers from flooding our posts with garbage. It may take up to 48 hours for your comment to appear -- sorry!
2. This blog runs the WP-Cache plugin, which reduces the amount of processing our host's server has to perform on this blog. The result for you is that our site crashes less. The downside is that sometimes it might take a minute or two for your comment to appear. Please don't resubmit your comment if it doesn't appear straight away. Please be patient and try refreshing your browser after a minute or two... Thanks, Lee

A little friendly podcasting booth competition going on? And I also see that your Avatar is now a man… a vast improvement

Lee, love the new digs. I fancy a chat. Should be fun!
Then you can teach ME a thing or two about building in Second Life. Seems like you’re getting the hang of it.

Swing on by http://www.secondlifeoffice.com the next time you are around. That redirects to a SLurl that will take you to the front door of my office.
Make yourself at home and invite friends over.

[...] I’ve given Second Life a go a good half-dozen tries prior to tonight, but this time I was finally able to engage in a group chat. Shel Witte — I’m using only Second Life names in this post — who in his “first life” co-hosts a pretty nifty business podcast, and Jonathan Richardson wandered into the Comms Cafe booth on Podcast Island shortly after I did tonight, and we were later joined by Chris 2x Pankhurst and then Pickle Radio. [...] Myself, having been smitten by Second Life, I’ve transgendered again. Now completely asexual, I have set Allan and I up on the Podcast Island of Second Life. We are just two doors down from For Immediate Release (a podcast you should listen to, if you have time after ours), and our furnishings are much, much better (Allan is still stranded on Help Island - though help is to be had from C.C. Chapman). [...]

Ah, ladies and gentlemen! Thanks for your thoughts and comment!!
The challenge with a ’second’ life is, as Donna P and others have found, finding the time for a ‘first’ life.
Of course, being in a time zone completely the opposite of the rest of the world doth not make for an easy hook-up. But it was lovely to see that Shel was checking out the Cafe booth and engaging in chat. And REALLY curious to see that the Pickle Radio dude was there, too. He must have a very large monthly outgoing, to have all that land and not many tenants…

Aaahhh… that’s because when I wrote those posts I hadn’t created a ‘Second Life’ category. Click on this link to get them all: http://leehopkins.net/category/second-life/

Ah thanks Lee, it certainly bumped up your second life posts
On a techno-boring level your right hand column is wrapping to the bottom left (after the actual content) in Firefox (PC).
cheers

[...] Second Life is definately becoming a ‘hot topic’ around here in the BusComms part of the blogosphere/podosphere, as Neville commented in the latest FIR. Neville’s recent post about Second Life - Reality or Escapism? - has generated a plethora of comments, both positive and negative about SL. So too has my recent post about it; for my blog it is the second largest commented-on blog apart from my PR calendar post. [...]
