Ihad a fascinating conversation with Ross Monaghan yesterday.
Ross is a lecturer in Comms and PR at Deakin University in Geelong, Victoria, and is always encouraging his students to engage in social media. This way, he says, students can bring a new, fresh perspective to PR agencies and employers because, as Allan Jenkins and I recently discussed, more senior members are very often reluctant to embrace new technologies until they absolutely have to. But if some ‘young gun’ can show them the hard data about the benefits of new technologies (such as social media) then, to be fair to them, they will very often initiate a trial, or at the very least find out more.
Ross has set up a blog — themediapod.net — that he co-runs with his journalism-lecturing colleague Colleen Murrell, who also contributes a number of interesting podcasts.
Ross very kindly asked me to contribute, in a manner similar to my contributions to Robert French’s Marcom blog. So very soon I’ll start blogging for more PR and comms students, from an internal comms perspective.
Ross has also accepted my invitation to create podcasts for him, too. He is looking for any communicators who wish to contribute podcasts, no matter how avant-garde (the more the better, he says), on communication issues. So if you feel like starting down this ‘podcasting’ path (and it is definately an exciting path to traverse!) drop over to the blog (soon to be re-designed) or his online office and let him know you’re interested.
