The BBC has held its first virtual concert by renting an island on Second Life. Complete with virtual bouncers, around 400 online folks were able to be a part of the first virtual festival to feature professional acts. Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll, is all my brain and body needs, Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll is very good indeed -- so said Mr Drury.

The Beeb has further plans to use the island as a place to showcase unsigned bands and singer-songwriters.

But before you think that the Beeb is being awfully adventurous these days, just take note that it was not ‘geek-friendly’ Radio 1 that was the first BBC entity to take advantage of Second Life.

Seriously heavyweight (as in gravitas, not gravity) Newsnight presenter Jeremy Paxman and business correspondent Paul Mason broadcast TV’s first ever face-to-face studio session from inside the computer game last year.

I think I need to follow Mrs Shel’s lead and start devoting some hours to this new online phenomenon. Now, which client shall I drop to free up some of my time…
