Inadvertently it seems I caused my fellow co-owner of the Better Desirable Roasted Communications Cafe empire, the suave and debonair Allan Jenkins, some indigestion over brekkie.
A Technorati ego search found that my name was very flatteringly mentioned by him not only on his own blog, but at http://allanjenkins.mobitype.com/.
Intrigued at a blog that seemed to be in French, apart from the actual posts themselves, I wondered if Monsieur Jenkins was being terribly European and blogging in a Euro language.
It seems not.
What does seem to have happened, however, is that a French mob are scraping his posts and repurposing them for their own (as yet unidentified) ends.
Allan has found that the ‘mob’ are ultimately ‘chaired’ by Löic Le Meur, the Euro head of Moveable Type and Typepad, platforms that young Allan has (until now, perhaps) recommended to his clients.
Personally I don’t recommend them, as I have had nothing but trouble getting typepad blogs to accept my legitimate trackbacks. My view: if you are serious about having a blog, do it with your own domain name, do it on your own hosted space, do it with a webhost that actually gives you proper service.
At the end of his post Allan has put a quite delicious licence to companies too stupid to understand what a Creative Commons Licence is, which he marvellously calls a ‘We are as stupid as dirt’ licence. And for which there are heavy licensing/royalty fees due upon publication, and publication of any spam comments.
Bravo, Allan. Go get ‘em, tiger!
[UPDATE:] Allan will shortly be putting in a bid for Branson’s Necker Island, as that French mob have just agreed to his terms for royalties by virtue of their publishing his material. Don’t forget the week-long lunch in Florence, mate!
And I even note that they went to the trouble of adding a comment to Allan’s post about my 1 year anniversary - comment #2, if you are interested…
