T
elstra (Australia’s biggest telco) has recently released a video and accompanying pdf on emerging technologies in the world of business communications.
Entitled “Making Change Work: What Growing Companies Should Know About Emerging Technologies”, the pdf article isn’t exactly the most rivetting of reading, being as it is a rehash of corporate marketing-speak about how we need to watch the emerging technologies, especially VOIP.
But I found this quote buried in the paper:
I think small and medium-sized businesses need to keep track of what their competitors are doing. You need to stay abreast of the internet and find out about the new things coming up. Most importantly, you need to look not just at the technologies but at the capabilities you want.
Absolutely.
What makes this quote interesting, for me, is that here is a large semi-Government owned entity telling SMEs that they need to watch what is happening on the internet.
For me, that means taking notice of not just your strategy but also the tactics as for what new opportunities they present. The tactics can include:
- VOIP
- blogging
- podcasting
- Ajax
- vidcasting
Possibly worth the 45 seconds it takes to skim read the pdf.
