Which is better - de.licio.us or technorati?
I’m confused (not an overly hard thing to be when you have my brain).

At the recommendation of my arch rival and nemesis Jenkins I have started using the tag generator at egmstrategy.com, a fabulous resource for, well… creating tags. Who’d have thought, eh?

But now I am faced with two dilemmas and not enough geek knowledge to be able to answer my own questions:

  1. Should I use technorati or del.icio.us tags, or indeed both?
  2. Why use one over the other — do they have different end purposes?

The advice and wisdom of my colleagues gratefully received…

You might want to use Technorati tags if you want to increase the visibility (on Technorati and on the Web) of your postings for selected keywords - others than your established categories (WordPress categories are automatically indexed as tags by Technorati).

I use del.icio.us for: 1. my personal bookmarks, and 2. bookmarking links that might be interesting for other people (i.e. my PR Digest linkblogmore about it). But I don’t use del.icio.us on my blog postings; I don’t think people will follow the links, and tagging my own postings it’s too much effort :).

YMMV :)

Thanks, big C — that makes it completely clear. And I dare say it makes it clearer for some of my colleagues who have wondered about tagging but haven’t ‘gotten into it’ yet.

Now, if only I could be sure that ecto (windows) creates tags for technorati, then I might buy it…

I use Technorati myself, but really I should give del.icio.us a second look. I’m just more comfortable with Technorati to be honest.
