Typepad and trackbacks

Typepad and trackbacks not happy, Jan!It has been bothering me for a while, the fact that whenever I ping someone with a Typepad blog the trackback doesn’t show.

I asked the venerable Ben Hamilton, owner of DynamicWebHosting (the very kind hosts of this very humble blog) to see if he could shed any light on why I could trackback to every man and his dog unless they had a Typepad blog.

It seems that Typepad themselves are at fault. And fault is not a word I use inadvisedly.

Ben pointed me to Dave Lorenzo’s (Typepad) blog where he has had enough of Typepad. Since I have absolutely no fault with Ben’s level of service, I am left staggered by Dave’s final paragraph in this post:

My current host – midPhase – provides twenty-four hour telephone support. I receive intelligent answers in real time. This allows me to respond to my customers (the readers of the blog) if there is an issue. I’m not left wondering what is happening.

Dave now has a mission:

However, after seeing your arrogant and condescending responses in this blog I think I’m going to make it my mission to convert other bloggers to services other than TypePad.

Dave’s not a happy chappy. And if I were paying $$ per month for a service that has reportedly ’sucked’ for as long as it has, I’d be pretty disgruntled too.

And no, I didn’t bother filling in my WordPress trackback field to Dave’s blog…

I know that Neville is moving soon to a WordPress blog; perhaps Jenkins, Donna, Heidi et al will follow suit.

I can’t comment on Typepad but I’m quite happy with my Wordpress blog. I’m a few releases behind and am keen to update to get some of the new features, but haven’t found that spare hour yet.

Wordpress is easy to install, even more so if your server is running Fantastico. There are plenty of good themes around, so you can get a very nice look and it is easy to add in your own bits and pieces. For example I’ve got a BlogMap which shows other bloggers near me.

    And it is all free.

By the way this crazy stuff is still happening and TypePad has no answers.

[...] After all the kerfuffle recently over Typepad challenges, including a recent comment by Dave Lorenzo on my last post about it , Stuart Bruce has moved to the typepad platform. [...]

This stops spammers from flooding our posts with garbage. It may take up to 48 hours for your comment to appear -- sorry!

2. This blog runs the WP-Cache plugin, which reduces the amount of processing our host's server has to perform on this blog. The result for you is that our site crashes less. The downside is that sometimes it might take a minute or two for your comment to appear. Please don't resubmit your comment if it doesn't appear straight away. Please be patient and try refreshing your browser after a minute or two... Thanks, Lee
