Dougie\'s in loveIt had to happen sooner or later…

A man can only take so much temptation… Ben Hamilton fell before him, now it is Dougie’s turn.

Forgive me, Father. I have a confession to share, and I’m rather ashamed to admit it. It’s this…

Doug has fallen head over heels in love.

Medieval European tales of chivalry lectured us that the truest love was unbidden, unconsumated, and intensified by distance or unattainability. Once the forbidden fruit was tasted, its favour was quickly lost, and the tree that produced it would began to wilt.

We’re all familiar with this: how many times have we seen an beautiful object in a shop, or caught the aroma of an unknown dish, or met an attractive person, and –upon “obtaining” it or her or him– quickly found the expectations unrealised, the intrigue dispelled? The object vanishes into a box in the attic, the dish is overlooked on a menu, and the person educes but an awkward hello or a vague smile and nod of the head in a crowded mall.

It gets worse. His passion overtakes him, leading him astray…

…actually halted my breath and sent my hands into clumsy little spasms of delight

Dougie has fallen for something that every wordsmith knows is a fundamental part of the soul — the romance of real ink on quality stock.

And with that, I’ll let you draw your own conclusions. However, for my part, I shall now be found haunting places like Moleskinerie and MoleskineArt.com, and thinking up pet names for my sweetheart.

I just pray that he doesn’t become unfaithful to his beautiful wife, the poor thing, what with one small child already and another on the way…
